Dr. Ryan MacFarlane is Vice President at Access Partnership, an international policy and advisory firm dedicated to making innovative technology work for the world. Ryan currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Global Rare Disease Policy Network (GRDPN), coordinator of the APEC Vaccines Task Force, and sherpa for health financing within the Asia-Pacific Financial Forum. Prior to joining Access Partnership Ryan was Senior Director at Crowell & Moring International. Ryan has also held key positions in government, working as a science advisor in the Office of Health Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as the Principal Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State where he chaired the APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum and APEC Chemical Dialogue. Prior to serving in government Ryan worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine Department at Stanford University and a researcher at Harvard Medical School where he published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles on the rare disease hereditary angioedema. Ryan received a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Stanford University School of Medicine.
