Robert A. Winn, M.D. leads one of the nation’s premier NCI-designated cancer centers, advancing a 21st-century model of equity in cancer science and care. Under his leadership, Massey integrates cutting-edge research, clinical excellence, and deep community partnerships to ensure that cancer prevention and treatment innovations reach all populations equitably. A physician-scientist, Dr. Winn’s research explores how molecular signaling pathways (WNTs, PRMT, KSRP) drive lung cancer and how environmental and social factors influence biological outcomes and health equity.
With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Winn serves as principal investigator on major multi-institutional grants, including a Stand Up To Cancer health equity award and an NCI-funded SPORE focused on lung cancer disparities. He co-founded Facts & Faith Fridays, a national dialogue bridging science and community trust, and is namesake of the Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Award Program, a $124 million initiative training diverse, community-oriented clinical researchers. A national leader in health equity, Dr. Winn is the first African American president of the Association of American Cancer Institutes, chairs the National Cancer Policy Forum, and is an AACR Academy Fellow. He holds an M.D. from the University of Michigan and completed his fellowship at the University of Colorado.
