Paolo Decuzzi

Dr. Decuzzi is a Senior Scientist and Professor of Biomedical Engineering and co-founder & CEO of Chiromesh Therapeutics, Inc. Trained in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, he began his career developing mesoscale models of friction and adhesion before transitioning to biomedical research. He has held academic appointments in Italy and the United States, including at UTHealth Houston and Houston Methodist Hospital, and currently serves as Adjunct Professor in the Division of Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Stanford University. His research focuses on the rational design of nano- to macro-scale drug delivery systems for combination therapy and multimodal imaging in cancer, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases. He pioneered the development of multiscale computational models in medicine and geometrically tunable nanoconstructs and polymeric implants, including μMESH (Nature Nanotechnology, 2021; ACS Nano, 2023). A former graduate of SPARK Stanford for the translational development of μMESH, Dr. Decuzzi has served since 2024 as an advisor to SPARK Stanford and the Stanford TRAM (Translational Research and Applied Medicine) programs. He has also been selected for the NCI STEP program (Cohort September 2025) and NSF I-Corps (Cohort August 2025), further strengthening his expertise in industrial grant development, regulatory strategy, customer discovery, and commercialization planning.
