Head of supply and availability of medicines and devices,
European Medicines Agency (EMA)
Dr. Dias is the Head of Supply and Availability of Medicines and Medical Devices at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), a position she has held since October 2021. She also serves as Chair of the Medicine Shortages Single Point of Contact (SPOC) Working Party.
She studied pharmacy in Lisbon, Portugal, and obtained her PhD from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. Dr. Dias joined the European Medicines Agency in 2004, spending a decade in the Quality Office before moving, in 2013, to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director as Principal Policy and Crisis Coordinating Officer.
From November 2016 to December 2024, Dr. Dias coordinated the work of the HMA/EMA Task Force on the Availability of Authorised Medicines, serving as its Co Chair from January 2022. During the COVID 19 pandemic, she led EMA’s coordination efforts related to shortages, working closely with National Competent Authorities to mitigate supply disruptions.
Following the adoption of Regulation (EU) 2022/123, she was responsible for implementing the extended mandate of the Agency in the areas of shortages of medicines and medical devices. She was Rapporteur for the Workstream on Critical medicinal products of the European Commission’s Structured Dialogue on the Security of Supply and led the development of a methodology to establish the Union list of critical medicines.
