Miriam Mason is currently serving as a senior advisor to Public Good Projects (PGP), a public health nonprofit specializing in large-scale communications programs, social and behavior change interventions and cross-sector initiatives. She leads PGP’s thought leadership strategy and implementation program. She has expertise in developing and delivering strategic communications and thought leadership programs across multiple platforms for global corporations, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations. Miriam has extensive patient advocacy communications and stakeholder engagement experience in the public health, healthcare, biopharmaceutical and medical research sectors.
Miriam started her own communications consulting business in 2013 providing strategic communications across a range of clients, including Kaiser Permanente, Public Good Projects, Pfizer, The Gates Foundation, Stanford University Hospitals & Clinics.
She previously served as a senior director at Kaiser Permanente, the largest US integrated healthcare system, where she built and implemented a communications strategy that elevated Kaiser Permanente’s Community Health and Social Health leadership. Miriam also led the organization’s COVID-19 prevention communications and led the communications launch to support Kaiser Permanente’s integration of social health into clinical care.
She led Medical and Research & Development Communications during her tenure at Pfizer, focused on internal and external audiences and stakeholders. Prior to joining Pfizer, Miriam was vice-president of product and pipeline communications at Elan Pharmaceuticals and senior vice-president and Healthcare Practice leader for Weber Shandwick. She lived and worked in England for 20 years, where she held positions as head of corporate and internal communications for AstraZeneca UK, and as group director, Health and Medical Practice, for Ogilvy Public Relations working for a wide range of global biopharmaceutical and healthcare clients.
Miriam started her career as a journalist and senior editor for the Financial Times (FT) in London for 10 years. She co-authored the FT’s top selling management book on healthcare, Healthcare Systems: Cost vs. Quality (1st and 2nd editions), assessing healthcare systems in Europe and the US.
