Dr. Tomic has over 30 years’ experience in biotechnology operations, including development, production, and compliance. His B.A. degree is in Molecular Biology/Virology, and he earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He joined Bayer after his post Doctorate work and continued to work in biotechnology, working on protein purification processes development and analytical methods development. He has experience with formulation, with emphasis in particle characterization. He joined XOMA in 1999 and managed Quality groups for biopharmaceutical protein and materials testing and release. Since 2005, Dr. Tomic has interacted with the USG as the Principal Investigator for the production of botulinum anti-toxin products. He oversaw the successful transfer of product production to Ology Bio, then Resilience Inc., and developed an independent operational site in Alameda.
Under Resilience, Dr. Tomic has been able to advance his original development background in protein engineering and structure and add cell free production and screening methods to his skill set. He currently manages the Alameda site that supports molecular development, cell development, product characterization, cell-free product development and formulation for Resilience.
