Dr. Matthew Hewitt is Vice President and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of the Manufacturing Business Division at Charles River Laboratories (CRL), where he leads global strategy across Testing and Microbial Solutions. With over 15 years of experience in cell and gene therapy, he partners closely with senior leadership to drive innovation, operational excellence, and scientific advancement across CRL’s global network.
Prior to joining CRL in 2021, Matt held leadership roles at Lonza, Bellicum Pharmaceuticals, and the University of Pennsylvania, where he focused on therapeutic development and advancing cell therapy innovation. He earned his PhD in physiology and immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University. He also serves as a Board Member at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research.
