Assistant Professor of Medicine Director, Cardiology Informatics Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
University of California, San Diego
Mattheus Ramsis, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, where he serves as Director of Cardiology Informatics and Founding Director of Biosignal Research. His research focuses on three intersecting tracks: digital biosignal biomarkers for cardiovascular disease detection, large-scale clinical data science using the national research network, and implementation of digital and AI interventions. As a leading voice on national assessments of cardiovascular disease, Dr. Ramsis leverages the Epic Cosmos research network, one of the largest real-world clinical datasets in the United States, to characterize patterns of cardiovascular risk, treatment gaps, and health differences at population scale. His work on using photoplethysmography (PPG) waveforms to detect peripheral artery disease, the subject of a recent publication in npj Digital Medicine, exemplifies his broader approach: developing scalable, low-cost digital tools designed to identify cardiovascular risk in populations traditionally missed by standard clinical pathways. Dr. Ramsis is a recipient of the Robert A. Winn Career Development Award, the American Heart Association CILA Award, and the ACC Foundation Award. His scholarship is driven by a commitment to closing the gap between cardiovascular risk identification and equitable, guideline-directed care, decentralized digital trials, particularly in marginalized populations.
