Dr. Margaret A. Liu is renowned in the fields of gene delivery, vaccines and cancer immunotherapy. She earned an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, completed Internal Medicine and Endocrinology training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard, and was on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and a Visiting Scientist at MIT. She pioneered two technologies for cancer and vaccines (bispecific antibodies and DNA vaccines), was invited to lecture by the Nobel committee, and has received a number of awards internationally with two honorary doctorates including an M.D.hc, from the Karolinska Institutet. She was named one of “The 50 Most Important Women Scientists” by Discover Magazine. Dr. Liu was Sr. Director at Merck, and Vice-President of Vaccines and Gene Therapy at Chiron (purchased by Novartis), Senior Advisor in Vaccinology at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Executive Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) established by the United Nations, and a member of the US NIH NIAID Advisory Council.
She is Hedersdoktor with Scientific Affiliation at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Adjunct Full Professor at UCSF and sits on the boards of Macrogenics, Nanobiotix, and Ipsen Pharma.
