Maia Laing is a healthcare policy strategist, patient advocate, and individual living with sickle cell disease whose work focuses on advancing policy, access, and innovation for medically vulnerable communities. She is the Founder and Principal of Zakara Inc., where she advises healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, and industry partners on policy strategy, stakeholder engagement, and patient-centered healthcare initiatives.
Previously, Maia served as Chief Policy Officer at Sick Cells, leading national efforts focused on Medicaid policy, cell and gene therapy access, federal advocacy, and cross-sector collaboration. Her work has included engagement with congressional offices, federal agencies, healthcare systems, and industry leaders to advance policies impacting individuals living with sickle cell disease and other rare and chronic conditions.
As both a patient and policy leader, Maia brings a uniquely informed perspective on how healthcare policy decisions directly affect access, care delivery, and outcomes for patients and families navigating complex health systems.
