Lucilia Mouries
Senior advisor, Center for Patient and Consumer Safety,
Health & Environmental Sciences institute (HESI)
Lucilia Mouriès is a scientific program leader with over 20 years of experience spanning biomedical research, biotechnology, and scientific program management in international collaboration settings.
She currently serves as Senior Advisor at the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI), a global independent non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together scientists from around the world to solve the most pressing risk and safety challenges facing humans and the environment. She leads multi-stakeholder initiatives focused on patient and consumer safety, working closely with scientists, regulators, industry, academia, and other stakeholders to advance science-based approaches for improving product safety assessments and de-risking emerging technologies.
She has an M.S. degree in Aquatic Sciences from the University of Porto, Portugal, and a Ph.D. in Applied Biology and Biochemistry. Her doctoral research, conducted at CNRS in Paris, France, focused on the use of marine biomaterials for bone regeneration. Following postdoctoral work at the Centre Scientifique de Monaco and the NIH/NIAMS in Bethesda, MD, USA, where she specialized in cartilage molecular genetics, her interests have expanded to encompass all areas of biotechnology—from regenerative medicine and novel therapeutic modalities such as cell and gene therapies and targeted protein degraders, to food biotechnology. She joined HESI in 2016.
