Lawrence Tallon is the Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) – the regulator of medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion in the UK.
Under Lawrence’s leadership, the MHRA has strengthened its position as a world-leading medicines regulator, with new global partnerships and pioneering work in clinical trials reform, AI regulation and rare disease therapeutics pathways. The agency is focussed on speeding up access to safe and effective medicines for patients, increasing efficiency of regulations and helping attract innovation and investment in the UK’s thriving £100 billion life sciences industry.
Before joining the MHRA, Lawrence had a career in hospital executive leadership, most recently as Deputy Chief Executive at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, where he led the organisation’s approach to strategy, technology, innovation and improvement. He has extensive experience across the healthcare sector in strategy and leadership roles, including within the Department of Health and Social Care alongside ministers and NHS leaders.
