Kayj Shannon currently serves as CEO of Lyric Biosciences, where he leads the company’s mission to advance next generation biomanufacturing technologies for therapeutic innovation.
Prior to joining Lyric, Kayj co-founded Zafrens, where he led business development efforts, raised over $20M in financing, and secured key partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies. Before Zafrens, Kayj worked in Corporate Strategy at Amgen, collaborating with the executive leadership team to define long term strategy, forge partnerships in novel therapeutic modalities, and spearhead investments across cell & gene therapy, antibody engineering, single cell analysis, and quantum computing.
Kayj has advised multiple venture capital firms, developing investment theses and conducting diligence on emerging life science technologies. His prior experience spans the broader biotech ecosystem, including early stage startups, established pharmaceutical companies, venture capital, and consulting, giving him a uniquely holistic perspective on innovation in biotech.
Kayj earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
