Dr. Karen McGuire is Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of BioMendics, LLC, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing novel therapies for rare genetic skin disorders. She leads the company's translational research and clinical development programs focused on the MTORX™ small-molecule technology platform.
With 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development, Dr. McGuire has guided BioMendics' lead candidate, BM-3103, from active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) discovery through formulation development, preclinical evaluation, toxicology studies, regulatory submissions, and Phase I/II clinical trials. Her current work includes collaborations with investigators at Stanford University School of Medicine and Northwestern University to advance BM-3103 for Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex (EBS) and other rare pediatric skin diseases.
Prior to founding BioMendics, Dr. McGuire contributed to the development of therapeutic programs in oncology and polycystic kidney disease and conducted research on the chemistry and mechanisms of action of anti-cancer, antibacterial, and antiviral compounds. Her expertise spans translational medicine, clinical development, regulatory strategy, study design, and quality systems for drug development.
