Karen Boezi is the Chief Operating Officer of Thirona Biosciences. She has been involved in building, leading and investing in biopharmaceutical companies for more than 30 years. Karen was the CEO of Redwood Bioscience, leading the company through its successful sale to Catalent under an option to acquire transaction which she closed in less than four years after joining the founding team. Catalent’s Redwood division continues to be a pioneer in developing ADCs utilizing its SMARTagTM technology. Based on research from the lab of Nobel Laureate, Carolyn Bertozzi, the division has successfully outlicensed both its SMARTagTM platform as well as multiple ADCs that incorporate the technology. Prior to joining Redwood, Karen was a founding Partner of Thomas, McNerney & Partners which she launched with a colleague from Warburg, Pincus, where she invested with the seed stage team, and a partner from Coral Ventures, where she was a General Partner. During her venture career, she invested in 15 companies that went public and/or were acquired including three companies which she launched with scientific founders. Karen began her career at Alex. Brown & Sons as an investment banking analyst. More recently, Karen has been an angel investor and advisor to academic scientists founding biopharmaceutical companies. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
