Dr. John Swartley leads the Penn Center for Innovation (PCI), overseeing the commercialization of the University of Pennsylvania’s research, intellectual property, and startup formation activities. Under his leadership, PCI has launched numerous therapeutics, diagnostics, and digital health ventures while fostering partnerships with industry and investors. Previously, Swartley held roles at Catalyst Health Ventures and the Boston University Office of Technology Development. He holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics from Harvard University. Swartley is recognized for advancing new models of academic innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly during periods of shifting funding landscapes and institutional priorities.
