Dr. Joel Klappenbach is the I&I Search & Evaluation Lead, Worldwide Business Development at Pfizer. In this role, Joel is responsible for the identification and execution of business partnerships in Inflammation & Immunology therapeutics covering pre-clinical, clinical, and commercial phases. Joel’s work in business development is informed by his expertise in biopharmaceutical R&D spanning oncology, immunology, and neuroinflammation. Prior roles include leadership of translational biomarker development at Merck. At Merck, Joel also established a functional genomics team responsible for the functionalization and prioritization of genetic targets for therapeutic development across a range of disease areas. Joel holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University and a B.S. from the University of Puget Sound.
