Prior to joining Brii Bio in 2019, Dr. Ma spent 15 years at Amgen in the U.S., where he served as Principal Scientist at the department of Pharmacokinetic and Drug Metabolism in supporting discovery and early development programs across multiple therapeutic areas, including neuroscience, cardiometabolic, inflammation, as well as oncology. As functional lead, Dr. Ma contributed to progression of small molecule, peptide, oligonucleotide, as well as protein therapeutic candidates from discovery to clinical development including various regulatory submissions. Prior to Amgen, Dr. Ma held positions of increasing responsibility at Tularik before it was acquired by Amgen in 2004. Dr. Ma also completed three years of postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Professor Sidney M. Hecht at the University of Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from a joint program with China Pharmaceutical University and Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a B.S. in chemistry from Wuhan University, China. Dr. Ma has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications.
