Drug product development leader with 20+ years of experience in biotechs and CDMOs, developing oral and parenteral formulations for complex and difficult to deliver APIs, including peptides and poorly soluble oral small molecules.
James joined Thermo Fisher Scientific's site in Bend, Oregon in 2014 (formerly Agere Pharmaceuticals), and has held leadership roles in formulation development, project management, and manufacturing science & technology (MSAT) in Bend and at Thermo Fisher’s commercial drug product site in Cincinnati, Ohio (formerly Patheon). Before joining Patheon, James managed a portfolio of early-stage drug companies as Director of R&D for Arrowhead Pharmaceuticalsincluding RNA-based drugs for hepatitis B and oncology, as well as successfully completing early fund-raising rounds for two biotech start-ups: Nanotope Inc. and Ablaris Therapeutics Inc. James earned his BS degree at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) and PhD at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL), both in Materials Science & Engineering, and holds eight U.S. patents, as well co-authoring 16 peer-reviewed journal articles with 5000+ total citations.
