Frank Lau, MD, FACS, is a surgeon-scientist and serial entrepreneur. His 18+ years’ experience in clinical and basic science research includes faculty appointments at Louisiana State and Tulane Universities. He has served as a Principal Investigator in over a dozen clinical trials evaluating new surgical techniques that he developed and for medical devices from regenerative medicine to COVID treatments. He has authored 57 peer-reviewed publications including 9 in breast cancer, colon cancer, and liposarcomas. He has been granted 6 patents including U.S., European, and Chinese patents covering Keliomics’ core technology that allows them to maintain primary human organs alive ex vivo, including fat. This technology was developed in Dr. Lau's tissue-engineering lab and laid the foundation for Keliomics, whose paradigm-shifting ex vivo tumors are revolutionizing preclinical efficacy testing of novel therapeutics in breast cancer, colon cancer, melanoma, and peritoneal metastases of solid tumors. Dr. Lau previously co-founded two medical education SaaS companies, with a successful exit in 2018 when Firecracker was acquired by Wolters Kluwer Wolters. He earned his Bachelor’s in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics from Yale, his M.D. with Research Honors from the University of Michigan, and his plastic surgery residency and a stem cell research fellowship at Harvard.
