Dr. Elena Molokanova is the CEO and Founder of NeurANO Bioscience and an interdisciplinary scientist with more than 30 years of experience spanning biophysics, neuroscience, nanotechnology, and translational drug discovery. Trained as a physicist turned neuroscientist (M.S., Physics; Ph.D., Biology), Dr. Molokanova has built a career defined by the creation of pioneering technologies and first-in-class therapeutic strategies that redefine how neuronal function is measured, modulated, and protected.
She is an inventor of selective extrasynaptic NMDA receptor modulators and Graphene-Mediated Optical Stimulation (GraMOS) , introducing fundamentally new solutions to long-standing barriers in neuronal maturation, circuit interrogation, and excitotoxic neurodegeneration. Her research experience spans ion channel biology (UC Berkeley), clinical neurology involving Parkinson’s disease patients and Mir space station astronauts (Institute of Space Neurology, Austria), pharmaceutical drug discovery (Amgen), high-throughput screening technologies (Invitrogen), and Alzheimer’s disease research (Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute).
Dr. Molokanova has received SBIR awards from NIA, NINDS, and NIDA, supporting translational validation of eNMDAR-targeting nanotherapeutics in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and opioid use disorder. She currently leads NeurANO Bioscience, the company she founded, advancing disruptive nanotherapeutic and neuroengineering platforms through rigorous preclinical development toward clinical and commercial success.
