Dr. David J. Bearss, Ph.D., is the President and CEO of Halia Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing therapies that target chronic inflammation and promote genetic resilience to extend healthspan and delay age-related disease. A scientist and entrepreneur, he has spent more than two decades bridging discovery and translation, specializing in structure-based drug design and inflammasome biology.
Dr. Bearss has co-founded eight biotechnology companies and advanced over a dozen compounds from discovery to clinical development. Before founding Halia, he served as Chief Scientific Officer at Tolero Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma) and held academic appointments at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute and Brigham Young University.
He earned his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed postdoctoral training in oncology and drug development at the Institute for Drug Development in Texas.
Dr. Bearss has dedicated his career to transforming scientific discoveries into medicines that alleviate human suffering. At Halia Therapeutics, he leads a pipeline rooted in inflammasome biology, advancing therapies for MDS, clonal hematopoiesis, CMML, and other hematological malignancies; a LRRK2 inhibitor for APOE-driven Alzheimer's disease; and NEK7 compounds for diverse inflammatory conditions.
