Dr. Simpkins is the Chief Innovation Officer and President of Vivacelle Bio, Inc. He is also the Sosland Missouri Endowed Chair in Trauma Services at the UMKC School of Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri. For 40 years he practiced as a trauma surgeon and critical care physician. He is the inventor of the phospholipid nanoparticle technology for which he has been granted 10 US patents and 35 patents in international jurisdictions as the sole inventor. Three additional patents are pending. He was the PI of a recent successful phase 2 clinical trial of VBI-S for septic shock in which all endpoints were met with a high degree of statistical significance.
