Anil Narasimha, Ph.D., is a scientist by training and the co-founder and CEO of Mekonos. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley, Anil completed his Ph.D. at UC San Diego working on the mechanisms of cell cycle control in cancer. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University working on applications for personalized medicine and next-generation sequencing. He met his co-founder, Steven Banerjee – an engineer – at Stanford while doing his post-doc purely by chance. Upon meeting, they immediately started brainstorming the inherent problems with cellular delivery, asking more entrepreneurial questions, and going back and forth on ways to disrupt the field through an interdisciplinary approach. Anil currently serves as a Mentor at Fulcrum Venture Accelerator, an organization that helps other founders traverse the treacherous fundraising landscape. He is also mentoring a handful of companies at Bakar Labs, a life science-focused incubator founded by Berkeley for startups developing innovative technologies to benefit society. Anil is a trained Carnatic (South Indian Classical) vocalist and is passionate about volunteering and participating with a number of South Indian American groups in the Bay Area.
