Dr. Wong received his B.A./M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University, an internship at Hopkins Hospital and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Hopkins Oncology Center with Dr. Bert Vogelstein. He held faculty positions at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and Thomas Jefferson University and then joined the Cancer Biology Program and the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University in 2005. Dr. Wong has made several fundamental discoveries including the identification of EGFRvIII and the Gab1 signaling molecule. He showed that EGFRvIII can be used as a vaccine to treat glioblastoma and founded the biotech company Alteris Therapeutics to commercialize the vaccine. As CEO, he led Alteris’ successful acquisition by Celldex Therapeutics. Recently, he pioneered the enhancement of proteasomal processing leading to the 2nd generation vaccine, Y6-pepvIII. He developed a method to rapidly identify the CD8+ T cell epitopes enabling the discovery of new targets. Dr. Wong has received funding from the NIH, USARMDC, and CIRM, served on many review committees for the NIH and ACS, and an advisor to several universities and pharmaceutical companies. He has been recognized with several honors, including Who’s Who in America, and finalist for regional Biotech Company of the Year.
