
R Alexander Wesselhoeft, PhD
Director of RNA Therapeutics, Gene and Cell Therapy Institute (GCTI), Mass General Brigham
Alex earned his PhD from MIT, where he created a novel RNA circularization technology. His work led to key publications that substantiated the field of synthetic circular RNA and enabled their use for investigative therapeutic applications. He co-founded Orna Therapeutics, a leading circular RNA medicine company, and directed RNA research and development there for several years. Alex joined the Gene and Cell Therapy Institute of Mass General Brigham where he built the RNA Therapeutics Core to facilitate circRNA research and development, and a research group to develop next-generation RNA medicine platforms and explore circRNA therapeutic applications. He is also a Harvard Medical School Instructor in the Division of Engineering in Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
