Prof. Dr. Hisham Saad AlJadhey, PharmD, PhD

Since October 2016, Dr. Aljadhey has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA), based in Riyadh. He is leading his energetic team to achieve SFDA vision to be a leading international science-based regulator to protect and promote public health. He worked with stakeholders to develop and execute SFDA strategy. In his role in SFDA he is responsible for observing the safety of food and drug for humans and animal, medical devices, cosmetics, and feed products and their impact on public health. In addition to his leadership responsibilities at SFDA, he is member of several boards including: Saudi Health Council, Public Health Authority, National Unified Procurement Company, Saudi Patient Safety Center, Saudi National Institute of Health, National Centre for Palms & Dates, National Center for Inspection and Control, Grace Preservation Foundation. He received his baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy from King Saud University and his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) and master from Purdue University. He completed an ASHP accredited residency at Winchester Medical Center, Virginia. In 2008, Dr. Aljadhey earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Health Policy specialized in pharmacoepidemiology and medication safety from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States of America. Before joining SFDA, he has built both a scientific and managerial career at KSU and KSU Medical City, which included Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Supervisor of Pharmacy Services at KSU Medical City and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research at the College of Pharmacy, where he also served as Director of Medication Safety Research Chair. He was the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the same college for four years. He had adjunct appointment in the University of North Carolina, University of Aberdeen in England, and University Science of Malaysia. Dr. Aljadhey is Associate Editor for Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety journal and reviewer for several international scientific journals. He is the founding chair for the Gulf Chapter of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. Dr. Aljadhey supervised more than 25 graduate students and published more than 100 scholarly research and over 80 lectures in scientific conferences. Dr. Aljadhey worked as a member and advisor in several committees in patient safety at the World Health Organization. Dr. Aljadhey served as consultant to several colleges of pharmacy and universities and was a member in the Board of Directors of the Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy. He received several awards including the Andrew McAfee Award presented by the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology.
