Neal Amin MD PhD is the founder and CEO of Sculpta. Previously an Assistant Professor at Stanford University, he is known for his research on RNA processing in neural populations related to normal neurodevelopment and disease. This work includes the discovery of a microRNA specifically expressed in lower motor neurons essential for mammalian life (Science 2015, Neuron 2021) and single cell transcriptomic characterizations of novel human brain organoid technologies (Cell Stem Cell 2024, Science 2025 (accepted), Nature 2025, Nature 2024, Neuron 2018). He received a BA from Columbia University, his MD and PhD degrees from UC San Diego and the Salk Institute in La Jolla California, and his residency training at Stanford University. He has worked closely with Samuel Pfaff, Sergiu Pasca, and Marc Tessier Lavigne. Now at Sculpta, he is leading a team innovating a new therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative disorders.
