Michael J. Cohen, MSc, MBA, SEP, is the Senior Director, Lead, Environmental Sustainability for the PPDTM clinical research business at Thermo Fisher Scientific. He is part of the Environmental, Health & Safety leadership team, supporting environmental sustainability across various businesses, including clinical research, laboratories, clinical trial sites, and real-world evidence. His role involves developing environmental sustainability strategies, focusing on models, decarbonization, carbon accounting, and innovative solutions to help customers reduce emissions.
Before joining PPD, Michael helped launch the CVS Clinical Trial Services at CVS Health in 2020, where he built a decentralized clinical trials business and supported pharmaceutical commercialization, real-world evidence, COVID-19 testing, and vaccination deployment. Prior to that, he introduced in-office virtual reality patient education programs at Johnson & Johnson in various global Medical Affairs roles. He also led a medical device startup, collaborating with Walter Reed on negative pressure wound healing devices.
Michael has a background in bioengineering and materials science, with undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and graduate work at Northwestern University. He also holds an MBA in Finance from Louisiana State University, Shreveport, and the Sustainable Excellence Professional credential from the International Society of Sustainability Professionals.
