Lovisa Afzelius is a General Partner at Flagship Pioneering and the Co-founder and CEO of Metaphore Biotechnologies, a company designing novel therapeutics by combining machine learning and molecular mimicry. With a background in computational science, she has over two decades of leadership experience in biotech and large pharmaceutical companies. Afzelius has also co-founded several other biotech startups and previously led Pfizer’s systems immunology function. Afzelius has earned numerous accolades, including Inc. Magazine's Female Founders 250 List (2024), PharmaVoice 100 (2023), and Endpoints' Top Women in Biopharma (2022). She holds a Ph.D. in computational chemistry from Uppsala University, a master's in integrative pharmacology from Gothenburg University, and an MBA from MIT Sloan.
