UK Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation
Lord Vallance is responsible for advancing the United Kingdom’s science and innovation ecosystem, including R&D, life sciences, and engineering biology. He leads government efforts to attract R&D investment, streamline regulatory frameworks, and build international science partnerships. Lord Vallance was appointed the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation on 5th July 2024. Prior to this, he served as the Government Chief Scientific Adviser from April 2018 to April 2023 covering a range of areas including Covid-19. He has also served as National Technology Adviser. Prior to this, Lord Vallance held roles in GlaxoSmithKline as President, R&D and Senior Vice President, Medicines Discovery and Development. He has also worked as a clinic academic, Professor of Medicine and led the Division of Medicine at University College London. Outside of work, Minister Vallance has been elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences and to the Royal Society in 2017.
