Julia Vitarello

Co-founder
EveryONE Medicines
Julia co-founded EveryONE Medicines to make individualized treatments like milasen accessible for rare disease patients globally, inspired by her daughter Mila’s journey. She also runs Mila’s Miracle Foundation and co-founded the N=1 Collaborative, a hub for individualized medicine research. After discovering that her healthy six-year-old daughter Mila had Batten disease, a fatal genetic condition, Julia launched Mila's Miracle Foundation in December 2016. Collaborating with Dr. Timothy Yu from Boston Children’s Hospital, they developed milasen, the first drug tailored to a single patient. Despite initial progress, Mila's condition deteriorated, and she passed away in February 2021. This loss drives Julia’s mission to transform the groundbreaking work behind milasen into a solution for the rare disease crisis in children. Julia has garnered support from academics, biotechs, and foundations, amplifying Mila's story and the promise of individualized medicine. She frequently presents at conferences, advocating for change. Through MMF, she initiated a gene replacement therapy trial for Mila’s variant of Batten disease, launched a Neurodegenerative Disease Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and co-manages a pediatric disease cell atlas with BCH. Julia’s focus is on scaling individualized medicines from “Mila to Millions,” aiming to make these treatments routine for rare diseases worldwide.
