Dr. Hunter Newman started his career by earning B.S. in Biochemistry (Boston College) and M.S. in Biomedical Sciences (Tufts School of Medicine) to obtain a better understanding of medicine. During this time, Dr. Newman was involved in both basic science and orthopedic clinical research. Dr. Newman then decided to transform orthopedic medicine by working towards investing new technologies to better patient outcomes. Towards this, he began his doctoral studies at Duke University, where he earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science under the guidance of Dr. Shyni Varghese in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Newman underwent entrepreneurial training during his time at Duke through the graduate entrepreneurial certificate, a program with classes at the Duke Fuqua School of Business. Additionally, he further pursued entrepreneurial training and passion through obtaining a two year fellowship at Hatteras Venture Partners, an early-stage healthcare venture firm. Following graduation, Dr. Newman was awarded the Entrepreneurial Postdoctoral Award within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. During this postdoc, Dr. Newman spunout his dissertation work by co-founding OsteoCure Therapeutics where he became Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, OsteoCure was accepted to JLABS (Johnson and Johnson Innovation).
