Gerd A. Kullak-Ublick, M.D., is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist and has a dual industry/academic affiiation, currently acting as chair of the Hepatic Safety Team and as Global Head of Mechanistic Safety and Safety Signal Management at Novartis in Basel, Switzerland. Gerd also heads the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. His department coordinates the IMI TransBioLine Consortium for the qualification of new safety biomarkers, and Gerd leads the work package for Drug-Induced Liver Injury. His area of research is focused on drug and bile acid transporters in the liver, as well on mechanisms and new tools for the assessment of Drug-Induced Liver Injury.
