Senior Scientist
Reprogenix Bioscience
Candice S. Y. Liew, PhD is Senior Scientist at Reprogenix Bioscience, where she leads preclinical and bioprocess development of the company’s pipeline of pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-derived cellular therapies for diabetes. Mentored by world-renowned regenerative medicine pioneer Professor Hongkui Deng, Dr. Liew has over 8 years of specialized experience in stem cell biology, cellular differentiation and translational research. She plays a central role in advancing Reprogenix’s novel technologies and was integral to the development of RGB-5088, the company’s lead candidate, advancing it through key milestones from early-proof-of-concept to IND readiness. Dr. Liew earned her PhD in Cell Biology from Peking University, where her work centered on lineage-specific differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. In particular, she focused on establishing a state-of-the-art islet differentiation protocol, bench-to-bedside translation of iPSC-derived islets including the world's first systematic preclinical study in diabetic nonhuman-primates, and bioreactor-based cell culture techniques. She has authored publications in top-tier journals including Nature Medicine, Cell and Science. At Reprogenix Bioscience, she leads the R&D team responsible for both translational research strategy and scalable islet cell manufacturing processes. Her leadership is instrumental in bridging fundamental research with clinical application, and in driving innovation in the field of cell-based therapies.
