Amy Finan, BA

CEO
Sabin Vaccine Institute
Amy Finan has led the non-profit Sabin Vaccine Institute as CEO since April 2016, expanding its vaccine research and development portfolio and global immunization programs. She has built key partnerships, broadened funding streams, and strengthened Sabin’s Board of Trustees and staff. Since taking on the role, Amy has spearheaded Sabin’s pivot to an R&D strategy focused on developing vaccines for disease threats with limited commercial appeal. In 2019, she led Sabin’s acquisition of a vaccine license from GSK and mobilized funding to advance Marburg and Sudan virus vaccines. These vaccine candidates have since progressed to Phase 2 trials, attracting more than $250 million in U.S. government funding. Under Amy’s leadership, Sabin has delivered investigational vaccines during outbreaks and launched global health initiatives spanning surveillance, dosing strategies, vaccine access, acceptance, and uptake -- addressing diseases such as HPV, cholera, and malaria. She has also championed a deeper commitment to strengthening local partnerships in the countries Sabin serves while growing collaborations with government agencies and global health organizations, including the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, WHO, Gavi, the Gates Foundation, CEPI, and Wellcome Trust. Previously, Amy served as senior vice president at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), where she expanded membership, revenue, and strategic initiatives. In parallel, she also served as president of the Biotechnology Institute, a BIO-founded organization dedicated to promoting life science education. Earlier in her career, Amy led corporate communications and investor relations at EntreMed and directed government relations at the National Association for Biomedical Research. Amy studied at the London School of Economics & Political Science and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Amy has lived in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area for more than 35 years.
