Since its founding, Pennsylvania has been a leader in medicine and the life sciences. The first hospital in the United States was established in Philadelphia in 1751 followed by the first school of pharmacy in 1821. More recently, Pennsylvania is where the first FDA-approve gene therapy was developed. Today, the Commonwealth is home to nearly 3,100 life sciences firms and remains a biomedical innovation hub with internationally recognized academic research institutions, large global pharmaceutical companies, growing biotechnology companies, and a highly skilled bioscience-based workforce. BIO Chief Executive Officer John F. Crowley invites you to join a conversation with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro about the power of public-private partnership and how collaboration can strengthen and grow the biotechnology industry. The discussion will explore topics like government programs and policies to encourage industry growth and job creation, scientific advances in the industry, and how the formation of effective government policy can accelerate innovation to patients.
