Chulalongkorn University - Baiya Phytopharm Co., Ltd
- Biotech or pharma, therapeutic R&D
- Academic, tech transfer
Baiya Phytopharm, founded in 2018 as a spin-off from Chulalongkorn University, was co-founded by Waranyoo Phoolcharoen, PhD, an expert in plant-produced proteins, and Suthira Taychakhoonavudh, PhD, an expert in health economics. The company develops impactful biopharmaceuticals using its proprietary BaiyaPharming™ plant-based platform to produce recombinant therapeutic proteins. Its strategy includes advancing a pipeline for unmet needs in oncology and non-oncology (e.g., brain metastases, RSV, asthma), offering CDMO/CRO services via MP Solution, and expanding into cosmetics, alternative meats, and gene therapy through BGF Plantrix. Baiya's facility is Asia’s first cGMP-certified for plant-based tech. Within 40 months, it reached clinical stage with its first molecule entering a human trial in 2021, positioning it among the region’s fastest-growing biotech firms.
