For years, therapeutic development for Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases has focused on the pathologies within the brain such as, in the case of Alzheimer’s, amyloid plaques and tau tangles. While there is a neurobiological basis for the progression of these diseases, research clearly indicates that underlying neuroinflammation is critically important, and companies are looking to apply that knowledge to new therapeutics.
