Business Development/Convention Overall
CNNMoney.com- May 10, 2010
“The world's drug development pipeline is becoming a real couple. That key message emerged from the annual mega-meeting of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) last week in Chicago. Pharma showed its love at the BIO event by deploying small armies of business development people to hold thousands of speed-dating sessions with biotech hopefuls during the four-day meeting. For instance, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) brought 35 people who held 300 meetings. ‘A few years ago, we were nowhere with biotech," says Adrian Rawcliffe, head of business development for GlaxoSmithKline. "Now we have 100 people doing deals worldwide.’ “
VentureWire/Wall Street Journal - May 5, 2010
“Biotech start-ups and pharmaceutical giants need each other and are eager partners. But what happens to their union after the honeymoon? That was a topic that pharmaceutical and biotech executives tackled at a panel discussion on alliances at the BIO convention in Chicago Monday.”
WashingtonPost.com Blog- May 7, 2010
"Biotech has rebounded from the recession faster than just about all other industries here," said Christian S. Johansson, secretary of the Department of Business and Economic Development, who was among those who attended the Biotechnology Industry Organization's annual International Convention in Chicago this week.”
San Francisco Business Times- May 5, 2010
“The number of one-on-one partnering meetings grew at this year’s BIO to at least 17,000, said Stephen Sherwin, BIO’s chairman and former CEO of South San Francisco’s Cell Genesys Inc.”
CENBlog.com- April 30, 2010
“And we’re off to the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s annual meeting, which is being held in Chicago this year. I’ve been trying to remember how many of these I’ve been to now–eight? nine? Either way, BIO is the meeting everyone loves to hate. Some complain its become irrelevant, others that it has gotten too big and unfocused, but I can guarantee that pretty much every biotech and big pharma out there will still have at least one person (or dozens) repping in Chicago next week. There will be plenty to see and do.”
GenomeAlberta.com- May 3, 2010
“The Annual BIO International Conference brings together 15,000 plus life science and biotech industry reps, science officers, CFOs, Communication and PR professionals, marketers, and of course, media. The inevitable result of this close encounter of the convention kind are announcements. Lots of 'em.”
