PITDC (Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry Technology and Development Center, Taiwan) is pleased to announce its new cooperation relationship with the well-known CRO, PharmaNet. PharmaNet is a leading global supplier of drug development services, including phase I-IV clinical trials and PK/ BA/ BE studies for new drugs or generics. The partnership between PITDC and PharmaNet will lay a good foundation for TPA to further expand the markets in Europe and US. And the contract signing ceremony of PharmaNet and the TPA member, Pei Li Pharmaceutical, marks the beginning of this long-term partnership.
Pei Li Pharmaceutical is a specialty pharma experienced in product development of hormones.

Governor O’Malley to Host Convention with Pioneering Women in Maryland’s Life Sciences Industry

To highlight the tremendous impact of Maryland’s pioneering women in life sciences; Governor Martin O’Malley will host a conversation with five top women scientists and industry executives. Maryland has the highest percentage of women owned firms in the nation – more than 172,000 strong and ranks eighth in the U.S. in the percentage of women who own businesses in the professional, scientific and technical services sector - which includes biotech - with nearly 30,000 statewide generating $3.5 billion in sales.
The panelists will include Dr. Judy Britz, Executive Director of the Maryland Biotechnology Center; Debra Bowes, CEO of TDP Bio; Dr. Claire Fraser- Liggett, Director of the Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland Bio Park; Maura Kahn, Vice President for Business Development & Marketing at Noxilizer; and Dr. Bahija Jallal, Executive Vice President of Research & Development at MedImmune.
Gene Therapy Clinical Trial for HIV to be announced by CalImmune and California Institute for Regenerative Medicine

Californian biotech, CalImmune, together with California’s stem cell agency, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, will announce details of a gene therapy clinical trial for HIV targeted to begin in 2012. New Advances and Collaboration to Combat Sleeping Sickness

A new study reveals a major advance which could transform the treatment of a long-neglected disease, human African trypanosomiasis, commonly known as sleeping sickness. Learn the details behind this development, which will be published on June 28 in the open-access journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases. This step forward is the result of a unique collaboration between the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and two U.S. biotech companies, Anacor Pharmaceuticals and SCYNEXIS Inc.
